Cornwall 2015 - Portowan

Cornwall 2015 - Portowan

I have been sorting out a few landscapes from our summer holiday in Cornwall. These are a few shots taken in Portowan. The first few images are taken one evening when conditions were good and we had a nice sunset. The last image was taken on the following morning when the conditions were somewhat different, - cloudy and very dull !

Table Tennis in Monochrome

Table Tennis in Monochrome

Not having entered any of the National or International Photographic exhibitions/salons for well over a year, I have decided to put an entry into this years Wrekin Salon. This partly because I was one of the panel of judges last year, so I felt I had better support it.
Not having ever entered any of my table tennis images before, I thought it would be an idea to try some out. There is an Open Colour section, and an Open Mono section, so I have been messing around trying out a few images, mainly to see how they would convert into `black and white` images.
Although I still think of table tennis as mainly a sport for photographing in colour, I was quite pleased with how some of these converted into gritty monochromes. Only trouble is that now I cannot decide which of the four of the nine images I should enter ?

Last week I visited York, Stokesley, and Ilkley Photographic Society`s, for a short lecture tour. During the day I visited the Ribblehead Viaduct and other areas in the North York Moors.

Wheelchair Basketball

Wheelchair  Basketball

A week ago, I was lucky enough to obtain permission to photograph at the Wheelchair Basket Ball match between Essex Outlaws and Oldham Owls. Although shot in colour, I felt it was a subject that had more drama converted to monochrome images. Here are a few shots from the match. All taken on Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 70-200 F2.8, ISO 6400,  and converted to mono in Silver FX software.

Cornwall 2015 - Trebarwith Strand

Cornwall 2015 - Trebarwith Strand

Just back from a week down in Cornwall. One of the places we visited was Trebarwith Strand , a great location for seascape images. Situated on the North Cornwall coast, it is a location that has been used by film crews over the years. Looking directly out to sea from Trebarwith is a small island called Gull Rock.
The images are taken with a Canon 5D Mark III, 17-40 mm lens, on a tripod and a 30sec exposure using the Lee Big Stopper ND filter. Converted to mono using Silver FX.

Saracens vs Exeter Chiefs - Allianz Park, May 2015

Saracens vs Exeter Chiefs - Allianz Park, May 2015

Last Sunday, David Robinson and I managed to get `media passes` to photograph at the Premiership Rugby match between Saracens and Exeter Chiefs. This was the last home game of the season, and Sarries needed to win this to ensure they were in the top four to play off` for the Championship title.  The match took place at Allianz Park, and it was a capacity crowd.  Unfortunately, Saracens lost 24-20 !
